The Beagle is built to practice what it argues for. This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, runs no third-party trackers, and sends nothing about you outside the European Union. This page explains — in plain language — exactly what that means, what little we do collect, and the rights you have over it.

Our principle: privacy by design

We designed this site so that browsing it is, as far as possible, anonymous:

  • No advertising networks, no marketing pixels, no cross-site tracking.
  • No Google Analytics and no third-party analytics of any kind.
  • No third-party fonts, scripts, or content-delivery networks — everything the page loads is served from our own EU servers.
  • No data about you is transferred outside the EU/EEA.

What we collect, and why

If you just read the site

We collect no personal information and set no cookies. We measure aggregate traffic (such as page views and where visits come from) using privacy-friendly, cookieless analytics built into our publishing platform. This data is not tied to your identity, is not used to profile you, and is not shared with anyone.

If you subscribe or become a member

When you sign up, we collect your email address (and your name, if you choose to give it) so we can send you the updates you asked for. The legal basis is your consent, which you can withdraw at any time by unsubscribing. If we send emails, we measure opens and clicks in aggregate to understand what’s useful — never to build an individual profile.

If you contact us

If you email us, we process your message and address for the sole purpose of replying. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in responding to you.

Cookies

We use no advertising or tracking cookies. The only cookies this site can set are strictly necessary and appear only if you sign in as a member — they keep you logged in and secure your session. Under the EU ePrivacy Directive, strictly necessary cookies are exempt from consent, which is why you don’t see a cookie banner: there is nothing non-essential to consent to.

  • Member session cookies (set only after you sign in) — keep you authenticated during your visit. Essential; expire when your session ends or shortly after.

Analytics

We use the privacy-friendly analytics built into our publishing platform (Ghost). It is cookieless and first-party: the data stays on our own EU infrastructure and is never sent to Google or any advertising or analytics company.

Who processes data on our behalf

We keep our supply chain in the EU on purpose:

  • Hosting — Scaleway, in a data centre in Paris, France (EU).
  • Transactional email (sign-in links, account emails) — Scaleway Transactional Email (France, EU).
  • Newsletter delivery — Mailgun’s EU region; your email address is processed within the EU to deliver the messages you subscribed to.

Where your data is stored, and for how long

All personal data is stored on servers located in the European Union. We do not transfer personal data outside the EU/EEA.

  • Subscriber/member data — kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, after which it is removed.
  • Server logs — retained for a short period (typically up to 14 days) for security and operating the site, then deleted.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, to object to processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email privacy [at] thebeagle [dot] io and we will respond within the legal time limits. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority; in France, this is the CNIL (cnil.fr).

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and revise the “last updated” date above.
